Everything Noqu-I-Sema Can Do For You

A full tour of the platform's features, and a complete step-by-step guide to using every one of them.

Why Noqu-I-Sema

Fijian families and villages carry generations of connections that are easy to lose track of once people move overseas, marry into other villages, or simply grow apart from day-to-day contact. Noqu-I-Sema (meaning "My Links") gives every Fijian one place to record, discover and stay close to those connections, wherever in the world they are.

Feature Showcase

Ordered from the features you'll use most, to the smaller touches that round out the experience.

Core
Family Tree

Add your parents, siblings, spouse and children, and watch your tree grow as relatives connect their own branches to yours. Marriages, remarriages and step-relationships are all supported, and relationship labels (Uncle, Cousin, Sister-in-law...) are worked out automatically.

Benefit: a living family record built by everyone, not just one person.

Core
Village Community

Every Koro has its own page listing Members, Vasu (those whose mother is from the village) and Vakawati (those married into it). Browse by Yasana and Tikina to find any village in Fiji.

Benefit: see exactly who belongs to your Koro, in the terms your elders use.

Core
Profile & Privacy

Your profile carries your photo, bio and details. Granular privacy toggles let you decide exactly what is visible: email, phone, address, birthday, qualifications, even your tree.

Benefit: full control over what the community can see about you.

How-To Guides

Every feature, explained step by step, from getting started to the smallest settings.

Getting Started

  1. Go to Register and fill in your email, password, name and home village (Koro).
  2. Registering requires a one-time, non-refundable Account Activation Fee (shown in FJD and USD), payable by MPaisa or PayPal.
  3. If you have a coupon/access code, enter it to waive the fee in full or in part.
  4. If someone has already added a profile matching your name and village, you'll be offered the chance to adopt that existing profile instead of creating a duplicate. The original adder must approve the request.
  5. Once payment (if any) is confirmed, your account is created and you're signed in automatically.

Use Sign In with your email and password. Forgotten your password? Use Forgot Password on the login page to receive a reset link by email.

Profile & Privacy

From your profile page, choose Edit to update your photo, bio, address, phone, date of birth, gender and qualifications at any time.

In your privacy settings, toggle visibility for your email, phone, address, date of birth, qualifications, your family tree, and whether other members can direct-message you. Changes apply immediately.

Your profile keeps a record of members who have viewed it, so you can see who's been checking in.

Family Tree

  1. Open My Links (your family tree) and choose to add a parent, child or spouse.
  2. Search for an existing profile first to avoid duplicates: if your relative is already on the platform, link to their profile instead of creating a new one.
  3. Fill in details you know: name, gender, date of birth, and whether they are deceased.
  4. When adding a spouse, set the marriage status: married, de facto, separated, divorced or widowed. Remarriage is supported, so you can add more than one spouse over time.

The family tree viewer shows your connections visually. Relationship labels (Uncle, Aunt, Cousin, Sister-in-law and more) are worked out automatically as your tree links up with others. You can edit or update any relative you added, or that is linked to your own account.

If a relative already has a profile that someone else created (for example, a parent added their children before those children joined), that relative can request to adopt the profile when they register or from their account. The person who originally added the profile is notified and must approve or deny the request before the profile becomes linked to the new account.

Village

Use Villages to browse by Yasana (province) and Tikina (district), or search a Koro by name directly. Village pages are publicly viewable; the Members, Vasu and Vakawati tabs require sign-in.

  • Member: your father is from this village, or both your parents are.
  • Vasu: your mother (and only your mother) is from this village, while your father is from elsewhere.
  • Vakawati: you have married into this village from another one. Both spouses become Vakawati of each other's village.

These are worked out automatically from your family tree as you add parents and spouses.

From your village's Gallery section, create a new named album (up to 10 photos each), add photos with optional captions, and browse any gallery in a full-screen lightbox. You can delete photos or entire galleries you created.

Every village has its own group chatroom, open to members of that village only. Find it from your village page or the My Koro link in the navigation once you're signed in.

Events

  1. From Events, create a new event with a title, description, date/time and location.
  2. Members can RSVP as Going, Maybe, or Not Going, and see who else is attending.
  3. After the event, photos can be added to the event page to share the memories.
Fundraising

  1. From Fundraising, create a fundraiser with a title, description, goal amount and deadline. New fundraisers are reviewed before going live.
  2. Anyone can donate to an active fundraiser, with the option to leave a message or donate anonymously.
  3. Progress toward the goal is shown publicly on the fundraiser page as donations come in.
Messaging & Notifications

Search for a member from the Messages section and start a conversation. Direct messages only work if the recipient has allowed them in their privacy settings.

The bell icon in the navigation shows unread notifications for new messages, family tree additions, profile claim requests, badge awards, and event activity. Click any notification to jump straight to it, or view the full list at any time.

Search, Badges & Help

The search bar in the navigation looks across people, villages, events and fundraisers at once. Just start typing and pick a suggestion, or press enter for full results.

  • Welcome Bula: awarded automatically when you register.
  • Family Connector: add 5 or more family relationships.
  • Community Pillar: attend 5 or more events.
  • Generous Heart: make a donation to a fundraiser.
  • Village Elder: awarded by an administrator to respected long-standing members.

Signed-in members can open a Support Ticket for account-specific issues and get a direct response. Anyone can also use the Contact form for general questions.
